Heklina puts it best in her own words: “To say that Trannyshack has been a huge part of my life for the past 13years would be a massive understatement. I have eaten, slept, and breathed Trannyshack and devoted my entire life to it. I have had the most incredible experience being the promoter and MC of this extraordinary, legendary nightclub. Being the hostess of Trannyshack has given me the opportunity to work with some of the most incredible people, and has enabled me to travel and perform all over the world. I wouldn't change one second of it. But now I feel like I must prepare to move on, and do other things. Of course I will continue to do events (Trannyshack Reno, LA, Seattle, The SS Trannyshack boat parties, Halloween, The Miss Trannyshack Pageant, et al.) under the brand name Trannyshack. I am also considering starting a monthly Trannyshack party at a larger space.”

Trannyshack is SF’s longest-running weekly drag and performance hotspot. Its midnight drag showcase has become the object of legend, and it serves as an important venue for up and coming local gender-bending talent, & as visiting out-of-town drag luminaries.

HEKLINA
is the hostess, producer, and creator of Trannyshack, SF’s longest-running drag performance night club, now in it’s 13th year of shocking and delighting packed audiences every Tuesday night at midnight at the STUD Bar in SF. Defying all expectations, Trannyshack incorporates everything from low brow trash to high brow performance art, and has become famous (or, infamous) worldwide as the quintessential San Francisco experience. No visit to the City is complete without a stop at Trannyshack. The club has been featured in OUT (which named it one of the top 10 reasons to move to SF), GENRE, and PAPER magazine and has won numerous Best of the Bay awards. Trannyshack has branched out its empire, with London, LA and NYC. Heklina has been seen on the E! Entertainment Network, BBC Television’s AROUND THE WORLD IN 80 RAVES, and as a guest on the Jerry Springer and Ricki Lake shows. She was voted Community Grand Marshal of the 2004 San Francisco GLBTQ Pride Parade. trannyshack.com

JUSTIN BOND
is a Tony Award Nominee, OBIE, Bessie, and GLAAD Media Award-winner, named by Time Out London as one of England’s “50 Funniest People.” His most recent solo show Glamour Damage made its world premiere at London's Soho Theatre. He has appeared in productions presented by The Big Art Group, Tiny Mythic Theatre Company, Theatre Couture and in Kate Bornstein’s Hidden: A Gender. He performs with his band The Freudian Slippers and as a featured vocalist on the London Readers Wifes’ “Nostalgia,” had a Top 20 Single on the U.K. alternative chart. He appeared as Valerie Solanas with the Bay Area electronic band Matmos at the Whitney Biennial in NYC. Bond toured internationally with avant-garde noise/cabaret band Pantychrist. Film credits include John Cameron Mitchel’s feature Shortbus as well as Imaginary Heroes and Kiki & Herb Reloaded, the feature film Fancy’s Persuasion directed by Charles Herman-Wurmfeld and the award-winning video Kiki and Herb:Total Eclipse of the Heart, and on TV on “Late Night with Conan O'Brien.” Throughout a career that has been dedicated to the explor-ation of queer performance, Ms. Bond is proud to have appeared non-stop in some of the dirtiest, most shameful nightclubs in the world! Bond graduated with an M.A. Stenography candidate at Central St. Martin's College of Art and Design in London. Web site: kikiandherb.com/2html/kbio.htm

LADY BUNNY
, the multi-talented drag artiste, with glitzy outfits, sky-high wigs, and false eyelashes long enough to embarrass even Tammy Faye Bakker, would turn heads even if looking glamorous was her only talent. Lady Bunny is a successful comedienne, emcee, singer, songwriter, actress, DJ, and, most famously, the founder, organizer, and hostess of Wigstock, the outrageous festival of drag and music that delighted throngs of New Yorkers every Labor Day for nearly 20 years. She tours with her bawdy, Dusty Springfield-meets-Don-Rickles mix of potty-mouthed humor, Southern charm, zany “Laugh-In”-style skits, and X-rated pop song parodies. Bunny has made the leap to TV and the movies, with cameo appearances in HBO's Sex and the City; Britney Spears' MTV special In the Zone & Up All Night; and the feature films Dragtime, Party Girl, and To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar. Bunny also DJs at fashion industry parties and society events around the globe; has collaborated as a singer and songwriter with the likes of Lady Miss Kier and The Ones; and is a frequent cultural commentator for magazines such as Visionaire and Interview, as well as a talking head for TV networks like E! and VH1 ladybunny.net

ANA MATRONIC has a long history of performing, emceeing, and is best known as the lone female member of internationally renowned group Scissor Sisters.  Scissor Sisters experienced tremendous success in the UK, where their debut album was the highest-selling record of 2004.  Scissor Sisters' accomplishments continued in 2005 with three Brit awards (UK Grammys) for Best International Group, Album, and Breakthrough Artist, as well as a Grammy nomination for Best Dance Single, and an appearance at the London Live 8 concert.  2006 saw the release of their second album, Ta-Dah, which furthered the band's success worldwide and spawned the huge hit "I Don't Feel Like Dancin'," co-written with Elton John.  Ana's experience in Scissor Sisters lead to a collaboration with seminal dance pioneers New Order, whose single 'Jetstream' was released in 2005.  She has been a featured performer at numerous happenings around New York at such notorious dens as Deitch Projects, The Kitchen, Joe's Pub, Weimar New York, Maison du Chic, and Victoria at the Stonewall Inn.  A performer since the age of 3, Ana became involved with cabaret and performance art in her hometown of Portland, Oregon.  She moved to San Francisco in 1996, where she was a featured performer at legendary drag club Trannyshack, had numerous solo performances at art galleries and cabarets around the city, and had her visual art displayed in two group shows and a solo installation. Ana moved to New York City in 1999, where, inspired by the East Village of the late 70s and early 80s, she set up the Knock-Off Collective with four local artists and performers.  Knock-Off became a regular night at the Lower East Side club The Slipper Room, and was the site of the first performance of Scissor Sisters (at the time just a duo), who would later recruit Ana into their ranks.  Ana lives in Brooklyn, New York, with her boyfriend Seth, several cats, and way too much stuff.

LADY MISS KIER
is best known as the vocalist, lyricist, co-producer and floor shaker for, the mega-hit dance band, DEEE-LITE, is currently in the studio preparing her solo album - a pop and dance fusion of breakbeat, electro, jazz and funk. She and DJ Dimitry formed the group DEEE-LITE and in 1986 in NYC. Towa Tei joined the group in '91, and DEEE-LITE's first single Groove Is In The Heart, struck like lightning on dance floors. As art director, her influence was felt throughout the 90's and beyond through fashion, video and graphic design. After 3 DEEE-LITE albums and 3 world tours, the band split up in 1995 and she moved from NYC to London to start DJing and programming her own productions. ladykier.com

Trannyshack Facts (2008)

Trannyshack is the legendary San Francisco, Tuesday night, drag night club, with a midnight showcase famous for its cutting-edge performances, often bordering on performance art. Themes are central to Trannyshack, which makes every Tuesday different and explains why, now in its 12th year,  it still remains fresh and relevant.

Started by Heklina in February 1996, Trannyshack took off at a time when there was an aching need for alternative drag spaces in San Francisco. Unlike traditional drag venues, gender is not important, but what really counts is what a performer does once they grace the Trannyshack stage.

The Trannyshack brand has been branching out around the globe, with (Heklina sanctioned)Trannyshack’s presently in: London, New York City, Seattle, Los Angeles, New Orleans, Honolulu, Reno, Portland, and, coming this fall, Salt Lake City!

Once Trannyshack bids adieu to it’s Tuesday night residency at the Stud bar in San Francisco, Heklina looks forward to traveling even more with the brand, and hopes to bring it back as a monthly party in SF. The Trannyshack name will also live on with the Trannyshack Reno bus trip, the SS Trannyshack boat party, Halloween and more special events to come.

The Trannyshack mission statement?
Be true to yourself, but once you get on the stage, bring it!
